Overview

If you're experiencing fuel starvation issues with your beloved Nissan R32 Skyline or GT-R, the Radium Engineering FHST (Fuel Hanger Surge Tank) is here to help. We all know how annoying fuel slosh can be, especially during those spirited drives. Unstable fuel pressure can lead to a lean mixture, which may risk engine damage. While a standalone surge tank is a fantastic solution, installation can often feel daunting. The FHST, however, is a fully functional surge tank designed to fit right inside your OEM fuel tank. You can configure it with 1, 2, or even 3 high-pressure pumps, plus a lift pump, to meet the fuel needs of any engine setup.

What's great is that even with all these extra pumps, the FHST system is straightforward and relatively simple to install. You won't need to grind, bend, or modify your vehicle at all. Plus, it's compatible with all alternative fuels, including E85, making it a versatile choice for any enthusiast.

Fuel Surge Tank Mechanics

The surge tank system works by keeping fuel securely around the pump(s) that feed your engine. This ensures that fuel starvation is a thing of the past, providing a steady supply of fuel no matter how you drive. But how does it keep the surge tank topped off? The FST pump(s) receive fuel from three different sources: the high-flow (low-pressure) lift pump, the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) return, and two integrated one-way fill valves. Together, they work harmoniously to keep the surge tank full at all times.

A stainless steel collector box is included, which attaches securely to the floor of the fuel tank. This box houses the sensors and lift pump, featuring a one-way trap door that controls slosh and prevents lift pump starvation. The lift pump sends fuel into the surge tank through an SAE quick connect fitting, making assembly a breeze. The two one-way flapper valves allow fuel in but keep it from escaping. Once the surge tank is full, any excess fuel simply flows back into the main tank.

Plumbing Made Easy

You'll appreciate the pre-installed barb fittings that allow for direct connections to your factory fuel hoses'no extra plumbing needed! Plus, we've included 8AN (feed) and 6AN (return) adapter fittings for those looking to connect aftermarket -AN style hoses. The fitting ports are designed to clear the unibody sheet metal, ensuring a clean installation.

Fuel Pump Information

All kits come partially assembled, with the final touches done by a technician during installation. You'll have enough parts to set up 1, 2, or 3 surge tank pumps and 1 lift pump. Just remember, you'll need to supply your own compatible fuel pumps. For more details, check out the installation instructions linked above.

Electrical Connections

Bulkheads

Our custom-designed stainless steel electrical studs are built to handle the high current demand that compact multi-pin bulkhead connectors often struggle with. These connections are hermetically sealed and resistant to all types of fuels. Non-conductive anodized aluminum acorn nuts are included to prevent any accidental short circuits. The top hat has enough studs for the lift pump and up to 3 surge pumps (including brushless options).

External Wiring

Since the fuel lift pump supplying the FHST will operate at low pressure (but high flow), your OEM external fuel pump wiring will work perfectly for the lift pump. High current wiring is provided for installing one FHST pump, complete with a relay, fuse, and all the necessary hardware.

Note: If you plan to wire in additional FHST pumps, you'll need extra fuses and relays. Consider grabbing the Radium 17-0031 DIY Wiring Kit for each additional pump.

Sensors

The factory fuel level sensor integrates with the OEM sender, and we've included a replacement sensor that works seamlessly with your gauge cluster. You can reuse the original low fuel switch, keeping everything familiar.

Chemical Compatibility

All in-tank wiring is insulated with chemically resistant ETFE, and we've included all necessary electrical hardware for the fuel pump(s) and sensors.
